Writer's Block: Open Arms

Have you ever spontaneously hugged someone you didn't know? Or received an unexpected embrace from a stranger?
Last year Scary Guy came to our school and got us hugging everyone. It was great. You could hug anyone and they wouldn't put up a fuss.
More recently, at my Grandpa's funreral, I kept getting hugs from people who had known him but not me. I definately needed it!

Writer's Block: True Crime

Today is the anniversary of the death of Elizabeth Short, also known as the Black Dahlia. What real-life murder story are you most fascinated by?
It would have to be the story of Jack the Ripper. We've been studying it in History recently and I think it's horrid that he managed to kill so many people in such a gruesome way and not get caught.

Writer's Block: Morning Decisions

The eternal breakfast dilemma: Sweet or savory?
Sweet on weekends then neutralish cereal on weekdays. I couldn't handle something overly sweet at the start of every day but it's nice to have a treat. I guess cereal's savory but I'll sometimes put a bit of fruit on the top to make it a bit sweeter.

Writer's Block: Traditional Pursuits

There are a lot of things we see most often in December, like caroling, potato latkes, mistletoe, mulled wine, eggnog, and returning gifts. What's your favorite holiday tradition?
I love going up to Scotland with my family. It's the one time of year we are all together.
Also, every year my dad reads 'Christmas Mystery' by Jostein Gaarder out loud. I practically know it off by heart but I love it anyway.

New community

I have just set up a new community in appreciation of my favourite author, Charles Butler.
Hopefully someone else will join.
If not, I'll have fun anyway.
BTW, I'm not feeling very well at the moment. Cold. Off school.

Writer's Block: Prohibited

Today marks the passing of the 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which repealed Prohibition. It might seem crazy to us now, but alcohol was illegal in the U.S. for 13 years. What common vice do you think is most likely to be outlawed in the future?
Smoking. Hopefully. It's nearly gone now, only a few more steps and it'll be gone forever. Think what that'll do to hospitals. No more patients with lung cancer! Or, at least, a lot fewer.

Writer's Block: Gobble Gobble

Today is Thanksgiving in the U.S., one of the few American holidays where the only things you're expected to buy are groceries. Some cooks like to go all out (see: turducken), others prefer to just go out. What kind of cook are you?
I see cooking as something that is never to be done alone. I love cooking with friends or family and find it a really good productive social activity. Also, if you work together you get everything done quicker and often only have to do what you want. Today I was making ratatoullie (i can cook, not spell) with skullgirl013 so I got to do the preperation of the veg and the washing up and she got to do the frying and drying. It all worked out fine, now we can't wait until we do it again next week!

Writer's Block: Eat, Drink, Be Merry

Thanksgiving is almost here in the U.S., heralding the start of the holiday season and the first of many meals where you might be confronted with a traditional dish that you happen to find disgusting. What holiday food do you hate to see on the table?
There is nothing that I really dislike but after spending the whole christmas hollidays eating the same kind of stuff you can get a teensy bit bored of it. My main one is trifle. Every year my aunt makes a trifle and despite the fact that I hate Jelly I have to eat it. I like it at first but every year...

Writer's Block: Eat Your Vegetables

The fall harvest is showing up in markets now, including many of the green vegetables children find so disgusting and yet are forced to eat. What is the most disgusting thing you’ve eaten, either by choice or against your will?
My Mum once bought me a really nice lamb thingy that she had found at a market. She had got it really cheap and was quite excited. Unfortunately, it was cheap for a reason. I ended up with a thick layer of fat on the top of my mouth and spent about an hour brushing my teeth that night. I was the only one who finnished it; my friend stopped as soon as she broke into a blood vessel. The moral of this? It's probably cheap for a reason.
